We are looking for an experienced Occupational Therapist with extensive knowledge of mental health with experience in the community and forensic fields to join the Specialist Community Forensic Team (SCFT). This is a developing service that has been set up in response to the NHS New Care Models to improve the care of service users within the forensic mental health system. The SCFT works with mental health offenders from the Essex area who are being cared for within medium and low secure mental health units, primarily in Essex. You will work alongside the Clinical Lead Occupational Therapist within the team who manages the discharge pathway from inpatient to community setting.

The SCFT provides a period of ‘in-reach’ work with our service users for six to nine months prior to discharge with the aim of building good therapeutic relationships; with the aim to engage in them, in care planning, relapse prevention work and addressing potential challenges after discharge.

The successful candidate will work with the rest of the MDT and act as the Senior Occupational Therapist responsible for supporting the care coordinators/social supervisors with their caseload of service users through the care system pathway from secure placement to community setting in self-contained accommodation, 24 hour supported care and intensive enablement placements.

About You

To apply, you'll need a degree or diploma in Occupational Therapy, or equivalent qualification, with current Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registration.

You'll bring experience of Occupational Therapy, modelling good practice and providing advice and guidance in complex situations. • Supporting the development and implementation of medicines management initiatives in Community Health Services (CHS). Promoting high quality medicine use, effective risk management, clinical governance, and adherence to policies and guidelines concerning medicines use across all settings.
• Developing pharmacy education and training activities within Essex directorate.
• Overseeing the medicines enquiry answering service within the Essex Directorate in NELFT.
• Working collaboratively with pharmacy colleagues and supporting clinical services to inpatient wards as needed.
• Raising the profile of the pharmacy team by embedding medicines management within the community services integrated care model.

Probationary Period

This post will be subject to a probationary period. Internal applicants are exempt from the probationary period (unless you are an internal applicant currently part way through a probationary period or currently a bank member of staff).



Starting with NELFT

NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment. As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop in sessions focussing in engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.



High Cost Area Supplement

This post also attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement of 5% of the basic salary (with a minimum of £1,192 to a maximum of £2,011)
