The ODP holds a unique position at the NIH, serving as the lead program office focused on assessing, facilitating, and stimulating research in disease prevention and health promotion, and disseminating the results of this research to improve public health. This Health Scientist Administrator will use their expertise to assist with the coordination of collaborative tobacco regulatory science funding opportunities, projects, and initiatives. They will develop research, training, and implementation initiatives related to disease prevention, tobacco, and public health. In this role they will also and disseminate information and guidance on findings from tobacco regulatory science, disease prevention, and health promotion research. The ideal candidate should have expertise in tobacco prevention and control. The incumbent will apply their knowledge of tobacco and prevention science to promote collaborative research across NIH, HHS, and the broader extramural community. A major component of the position involves working with NIH extramural staff and FDA CTP staff to coordinate grant and training activities related to the NIH/FDA partnership and tobacco regulatory science.

You will serve as the Chief of the Firearms Enforcement Officer Development Branch (FEODB) within FATD. The incumbent is responsible for coordinating and developing firearms-specific training as it relates to the criminal and regulatory enforcement of Federal laws related to firearms.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Tobacco Dependency Treatment Advisor to join the newly formed Tobacco Dependency Treatment Service, for patients with Severe Mental Illness (SMI) admitted to hospital or receiving support in community mental health services at Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust (GMMH). Tobacco Dependency Treatment Advisors will be integral members of the Tobacco Dependency Treatment Service.

Tobacco addiction is a chronic relapsing disease and the single biggest cause of preventable death, disability, illness and social inequality. 1 in 2 smokers die prematurely due to their smoking. People with a mental health condition have higher mortality rates compared to the general population and smoking is the single largest contributor to their 10-20-year reduced life expectancy.

GMMH has been selected as an Early Implementer Site for the CURE model of treating tobacco dependence, which is a proven, evidence-based intervention providing access to smoking cessation treatments alongside specialist support, at the time of hospital admission.

This role will be diverse with opportunity to visit sites across the GMMH footprint to deliver smoking cessation interventions, deliver training, and support the Trust to adopt the CURE model. Tobacco Dependency Treatment Advisors will make a valuable contribution to improving health and reducing health inequality amongst people with SMI.
