The Opportunity for the Visitor Centre Co-ordinator

We are currently recruiting for a Visitor Centre Co-ordinator for our Hartlepool Power Station. This role will be a full time position, working Monday to Friday, 37 hours per week.

The role will be responsible for leading a team of Visitor Centre Station Guides, organising and facilitating station tours and educational visits, including outreach across the region. You will be the point of contact for all stakeholders building a relationship of trust and openness. The post will develop awareness of the role nuclear plays in the UK and its contribution to its local communities, its commitment to the highest standards of safety and contribution to society.

What you’ll be doing as a Visitor Centre Co-ordinator


- As a Centre Co-ordinator you will be responsible for safely managing the daily operations of Hartlepool Power Station Visitor Centre.
- Responsible for the end-to-end management of bookings including making sure paperwork is submitted in a timely manner by visitors, managing the visits diary and calendar, and responding to all enquiries as they come in.
- Organising large groups of external visitors and ensuring they are briefed and understand EDF’s safety requirements whilst undertaking tours.
- Forward plan, organise, market and deliver an agreed annual visitor centre plan and community engagement programme, ensuring it’s aligned to the Nuclear Generation community liaison plan.
- Lead, develop and manage a team of station guides to meet the centre’s demand and to deliver a complete visitor experience.
- Maintain, manage and develop effective relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
- Maintain close coordination with other activities across the Company by participating in and reporting through Visitor Centre data.
- Develop classroom-based sessions which fit with the needs of the visitor groups (e.g. key stage activities for school groups).
- Develop volunteering and other community opportunities to promote the station in the community.
- Responsible for controlling spend against the Community/Visitor Centre budget.
- Lead on Community/charity engagement activities both internally and externally.
- Support external meetings with the local community where needed.
- Support station and Hartlepool Communications Lead with delivery of ad-hoc events and communications.

The Opportunity
We are seeking to recruit a well-motivated and enthusiastic person who will be responsible for management of the day-to-day activities for the preparation phase of the Station’s Statutory Outages. The Statutory Outage Coordinator will also be the main point of contact for all Station Departments, Central Support Functions and Contract Partners throughout the preparation and execution phases of the Statutory Outage, as well as looking to identify areas for improvement in the Outage processes and organisation.

What you’ll be doing
The Statutory Outage Coordinator holds a key role within the Outage Department in ensuring that Outage delivery effectively supports Site Licence Conditions, Statutory Regulations, Equipment Reliability, Operational Focus and work delivery to support 1000 days generation and the delivery of outage to business plan or better. You will be responsible for advising the Outage Group Head on priorities in the outage execution plan to [provide advance warning of any issues likely to impact on Nuclear Safety or Critical Path delivery. You will be required to interact with multiple stakeholders, both internal and external to the station to ensure the Outage Milestones are completed within dates specified.
Principal Requirements

- To act as a nuclear professional at all times and have a nuclear safety focus in all activities and responsibilities undertaken.
- Work closely with other Outage Management staff, Station Stakeholders and Business partners to ensure that Nuclear Safety, Compliance, Site Licence and Regulatory requirements are fulfilled.
- Prepare and update progress reports for Level 1 Pre-Outage Milestone Plan (POMP) for performance.
- Manage Metric Reports for Outage
- Manage Outage Department POMP Milestones and complete before due dates.
- Actively participate in Outage Lead Team
- Coordinate the development of the Outage Reporting Structure
- Provide reports to all Station Departments to assist with their own Outage preparations.
- Address any issues raised in the Independent Safety Review, Outage Readiness Reviews and in general Outage preparations.
- Champion internal station processes to ensure delivery of preparatory key milestones (POMP).
- Continuously challenging station Outage Management standards in order to drive improvement in Outage Management performance and optimisation of work scope.
- Interpret data for outage performance indicators and flag areas of concern.
- Support Post Outage Activities
- Deputise for the Outage Group Head

Who you are
Ideally the applicants will have thorough knowledge of nuclear power plant or have an industrial background with experience in the areas of project management, maintenance and operations.

What you’ll be doing
Principal Accountabilities:

- Analyse and provide engineering solutions to plant defects and where necessary provide plant modifications and solutions to plant problems.
- Investigate and identify plant faults and prepare instructions for their rectification. Manage routine and defect maintenance, ensuring that plant is maintained and modified in accordance with the site licence and maintenance fundamentals.
- The candidates should possess appropriate Electrical experience and ability applicable to the maintenance and modification of electrical systems specific to AGR power plant and associated electrical ancillary plant including Actuators, Transformers and Gas Turbines and HV equipment and switchgear.
- Take an active role in all team activities to ensure full compliance with agreed safety and environmental standards and expectations, ensuring that all activities, including supervision (Field Supervisor) of contractors, are carried out with full regard to Site Licence requirements, statutory regulations, Company and location directives and Safety Rules. Ensuring activities comply with operation experience feedback requirement (where appropriate to team).
- Maximise effective use of time and personal ability; working flexibly within own range of competence, undertaking the appropriate training and development to extend skills and abilities to meet the needs of the business and the department.
- Achieve Authorised Person Sanction for test to enable the successful candidate to lead HV testing of various plant items on site.

Control & Instrumentation Systems Engineer

An exciting and rewarding opportunity has arisen at Hartlepool Power Station to join our highly skilled and motivated Engineering Department. We are seeking applications from those with Electrical, Control & Instrumentation Engineering backgrounds.
As an Electrical, Control & Instrumentation Systems Engineer you will be responsible for the System Health of the plant, developing short to long term improvement plans, outage scope and defining the maintenance policy on their assigned systems. You will also actively participate in the work planning process providing engineering technical input as required ensuring prioritisation of work is based on the criticality of equipment and its potential impact on plant performance.
In this role, you’ll carry out the following roles and responsibilities:

- Be a system owner for Control and Instrumentation plant areas and act as the technical conscience for the assigned systems.
- Provide engineering support for project activities to advance the health of Station Safety Controls, Electronic and Control System
- Supporting real-time Process Control, PLC and SCADA systems.
- Ensure critical equipment is identified and that correct preventative maintenance programmes are in place to prevent unanticipated equipment failures.
- Manage activities that are to be carried out and completed with full regard to site licence requirements, statutory regulations, company and location directives, procedures and safety rules.
- Perform Condition monitoring, performance trending, plant walk downs and System Health Reviews as required.

Our C&I Engineers will hold a HNC or equivalent in an engineering or science discipline. You’ll have a sound knowledge of principles and concepts, including the quality assurance measures which drive good software and Control and Instrumentation design in safety-related applications. What we do at EDF

What you’ll be doing
You will be based at Hartlepool Power Station. As a Nuclear Safety Team Member specialising in Safety Case management, you will be applying an analytical approach to problem solving, including the provision of technical advice to the power station in areas including Safety Case compliance, Hazards assessment and fault analysis and progression. You will assess plant states against the Technical Specifications and provide authoritative advice on plant release, ensuring we can demonstrate sufficient Lines of Protection against our credible hazards and faults. You will also author, verify and review changes to the extant safety case. You will also be developing skills in reactor physics and work towards undertaking a role on the Station Emergency Scheme.
Your key day to day responsibilities will include:

- Analysing/interpreting data and providing authoritative advice to support management of the plant in a safe and efficient manner and within the appropriate safety limits
- Providing advice on and interpretation of our Technical Specifications, to allow safe, secure, reliable operation of our nuclear plant
- Analysing hazards and faults, ensuring that we can demonstrate Lines of Protection at all times
- Undertaking ALARP reviews and participating in ALARP workshops

What you’ll be doing
You will be based at Hartlepool Power Station. As a Nuclear Safety Team Member specialising in reactor physics, you will be applying an analytical approach to problem solving, including the provision of technical advice to the power station in areas including reactor physics and nuclear fuel performance. You will assess reactor core state and provide advice to the Operations department to optimise plant operation. You will monitor reactor coolant activity using gamma-spectroscopy equipment and provide advice on the state and health of the nuclear fuel. An exciting and rewarding opportunity has arisen at Hartlepool Power Station to join our highly skilled and motivated Engineering Department. We are seeking applications from those with Electrical, Control & Instrumentation Engineering backgrounds.
As an Electrical, Control & Instrumentation Systems Engineer you will be responsible for the System Health of the plant, developing short to long term improvement plans, outage scope and defining the maintenance policy on their assigned systems. You will also actively participate in the work planning process providing engineering technical input as required ensuring prioritisation of work is based on the criticality of equipment and its potential impact on plant performance.
In this role, you’ll carry out the following roles and responsibilities:

- Be a system owner for Control and Instrumentation plant areas and act as the technical conscience for the assigned systems.
- Provide engineering support for project activities to advance the health of Station Safety Controls, Electronic and Control System
- Supporting real-time Process Control, PLC and SCADA systems.
- Ensure critical equipment is identified and that correct preventative maintenance programmes are in place to prevent unanticipated equipment failures.
- Manage activities that are to be carried out and completed with full regard to site licence requirements, statutory regulations, company and location directives, procedures and safety rules.
- Perform Condition monitoring, performance trending, plant walk downs and System Health Reviews as required.

We currently have two exciting opportunities at Hartlepool Power Station to join the team as Data Processing and Control Systems Engineers.
You will be working within the Protection & Electrical System Group (PESG) at Hartlepool, supporting real-time process control and SCADA systems.
We are looking for both hardware and software engineers with the following skills and capabilities and attributes:

- An understanding of electronic circuits employing DTL, TTL and CMOS logic and discrete devices.
- Experience replacing/maintaining legacy electronic systems.
- A hands-on approach to extending the life of existing systems.
- Experience designing and writing real-time software (including Assembler) would be an advantage.

The Design Engineering group is responsible for the safe and sound engineering of the plant in order to maintain its design integrity. You will be responsible for the identification, safety justification, implementation, and completion of modifications to plant design required at the station to ensure its continued safe and reliable operation. What you’ll be doing
You will be based at Hartlepool Power Station. As a Nuclear Safety Team Member specialising in reactor physics, you will be applying an analytical approach to problem solving, including the provision of technical advice to the power station in areas including reactor physics and nuclear fuel performance. You will assess reactor core state and provide advice to the Operations department to optimise plant operation. You will monitor reactor coolant activity using gamma-spectroscopy equipment and provide advice on the state and health of the nuclear fuel. You will also be developing skills in Safety Case management and advising on compliance with the station safety case and work towards undertaking a role on the Station Emergency Scheme.
Your key day to day responsibilities will include:

- Analysing/interpreting data and providing authoritative advice to support management of the plant in a safe and efficient manner and within the appropriate safety limits
- Running reactor physics codes to model reactor core behaviour
- Reactor core management – optimisation of reactor operation to ensure safe, secure, reliable generation of electricity
- Fuel management – reactor core ‘design’ including specifying fuel loadings, optimising run lengths and refuelling outage placement to meet generation targets
- Reactor coolant gas activity analysis using gamma-spectroscopy
- Fuel performance monitoring
- Providing a professional customer/client-based quality service in relevant aspects of Nuclear Plant Performance and Safety Case Management
- Undertaking a relevant role in accordance with the station emergency response arrangements (subject to completion of appropriate training).

Who you are
We are looking for ambitious, intelligent and inquisitive individuals who can solve challenging problems with both integrity and pragmatism. Your excellent communication and influencing skills will be required to provide understanding, interpretation and guidance on reactor physics, compliance, Site Licence and safety case matters and you will challenge the Station to ensure that Nuclear Safety remains the overriding priority.
We expect a candidate with the following attributes:

- A degree-level qualification of at least 2:1 in are relevant engineering, physical sciences or mathematics discipline.
- A passion for nuclear energy and science/engineering.
- The ability to solve complex technical problems with pragmatism
- Be able to communicate technical issues to both specialists and non-specialists simply and clearly, both verbally and in writing
- Have drive and enthusiasm for your own professional development
- Have the ability to work independently, taking on responsibility for delivery of assignments within deadlines as well as being a strong team player.

The following qualities are desirable:

- Experience of working at an operational nuclear power station or within the nuclear industry
- Relevant experience in submarine reactors, research reactors or novel nuclear technologies
- Ability to run reactor physics codes and interpret the results
- Coding ability in languages such as VBA, C, Fortran
- Safety case management including authoring of Engineering changes and Category 2 safety submissions
- Be a Chartered Engineer, Physicist or Scientist, awarded by an accredited professional institution
